Virusi su si\u0107u\u0161ne \u010destice koje ne mogu samostalno \u017eivjeti, ve\u0107 napadaju \u0107elije na\u0161eg tijela kako bi se razmno\u017eavali. Kada virus u\u0111e u \u0107eliju, koristi njene resurse da napravi svoje kopije \u2013 \u0161to \u010desto dovodi do uni\u0161tenja te \u0107elije. Primjeri virusnih infekcija su prehlada, gripa, vari\u010dele i mnoge druge. Bakterije su ne\u0161to ve\u0107e jedno\u0107elijske forme \u017eivota koje se mogu samostalno razmno\u017eavati. Mnoge bakterije su zapravo korisne (npr. one koje \u017eive u na\u0161im crijevima i poma\u017eu varenje), ali patogene bakterije mogu izazvati infekcije poput upale grla, upale plu\u0107a, urinarnih infekcija i dr. S druge strane, ekstremno naporni treninzi bez dovoljno odmora mogu privremeno naru\u0161iti imuni sistem.
