It is a crystalline compound soluble in water and alcohols. It is sensitive to heat, alkaline solutions, and oxidizing agents. It has a characteristic, sharp odor.   <\/p>\n<p>It is essential for the normal functioning of nerve cells, promotes growth, fertility, lactation, and digestion.<\/p>\n<p>A deficiency of this vitamin causes the accumulation of pyruvic acid in the blood and central nervous system.
