Vitamin B1

Vitamin B1, also known as thiamine or aneurin, is an anti-polyneuritic vitamin essential for the breakdown and conversion of carbohydrates, fats, and alcohol, as well as the proper functioning of the heart muscle and nerve cells. It is a crystalline compound soluble in water and alcohols. It is sensitive to heat, alkaline solutions, and oxidizing agents. It has a characteristic, sharp odor.

It is essential for the normal functioning of nerve cells, promotes growth, fertility, lactation, and digestion.

A deficiency of this vitamin causes the accumulation of pyruvic acid in the blood and central nervous system. As a result, it can lead to heart failure, a state of “nervous exhaustion” (neurasthenia), insomnia, rapid fatigue, nervousness, lack of interest, poor concentration, head pressure, sweating, ringing in the ears, etc.

The main sources of Vitamin B1 are liver, yeast, raw rice, wheat bran, oatmeal, peanuts, pork, legumes, and it is also found in most vegetables (except white rice).
